How come you don't have any of your characters on baby clothes?
I originally intended to offer my illustrations on baby clothes, but that thought was never fully processed. Honestly, I didn't know folks would be that interested. I was wrong...It's in the works.
Do you ever work in color?
Not really. I always felt that color would take away from my line work, so I avoided it. I have dabbled in watercolor, which I love, but that's about it. I hope to find a happy medium between line and color...one day.
How long have you been drawing?
I have been drawing since I was 12.
What is your inspiration?
I am inspired by everything, but I listen to music when I am trying to develop an idea.
How do you come up with these characters?
First off, I never saw my illustrations as 'characters'. I believe they are the folks I encountered and/or experienced throughout my life. Both real and imagined. You would be surprised at how much information we store about people, places and things. I know I am.
What are the names of your characters?
I never really named them except for Deshaun (Brother with Afro)It never occurred to me to give them names. Perhaps when I tell their story, they shall have names.
Do you do stationary?
Not at this time, but I would like to make it available in the future.
Could you take any of your characters and put them on a shirt, postcard, etc.? Only the ones meant for t-shirts and/or postcards.
Are you interested in doing children's books?
Yes. I have several characters rolling around in my head that I have to release...soon.
Where else can I find your work?
At the moment, here would be your best bet.
Have you ever shown your work in an art gallery?
I have done group shows in the past, but nothing major.
When are you going to animate your characters?
I have no idea.
Are you available to talk to kids and/or young adults about your artwork? I would love to. I can be reached at catocreate@aol.com.
